About the Peekskill BID (Business Improvement District)

Map of BID

The Peekskill BID was established by the City in 1996 to “preserve, improve and promote the Downtown Business District of the City.”  The original District Plan states: “Economic and tourism development, marketing and promotions, event management, business retention and relocation of new businesses to Peekskill will be among the priorities of the proposed Business Improvement District.”

The BID is a geographic entity and it is funded by taxes levied on the properties contained within the District.  Since its inception, the City has collected $100,00 a year for the BID budget and that money is used to maintain an office and staff,  to run programs and events,  for advertising and marketing and other activities that help promote our local businesses owners.  In addition to tax money, the BID  also receives grants from New York State for beautification and improvements to Downtown Peekskill.  Some of projects that have been funded by these grants include the Bank St. clock, the vest pocket park at Division St. and Central Avenue, banners and even facade improvements for some of the buildings in the BID.   This year a new and improved website has been set up, concerts and live entertainment events will be held, and the Farmers Market will be open every Saturday.  It is hoped that these efforts will enhance the continued success of the current occupants of the district, and increase opportunities to attract more retail and commercial establishments.
