Take a tour of our Historic Downtown with this Fact filled brochure

If you are considering Peekskill as a place for your business then your first stop should be the  city's Office of Economic Development(OED). OED can provide you with guidance and technical assistance to help determine what city permits or licenses you may need to open your business. In addition, since OED is an office within the Department of Planning, Development, and Code Assistance we can assist with zoning questions and help explain the city's planning process.

OED's database of choice real estate locations - an objective, confidential free resource - make site selection more efficient and tailored to the requirements of specific businesses. We can provide you with sales data on office, industrial, and commercial real estate market, tax information, updates on infrastructure and transportation projects, and historical and projected economic data.

OED can also bring resources to the table such as business startup assistance in the form of SCORE or NYS Small Business Development Center counseling or financing through Westchester County's SBA Microlender Community Capital Resources. We also can assist you in working with Con Edison or NYSERDA to determine how your property or business operation can become more energy efficient. Finally, if you are seeking recruitment resources, OED works with NYS Department of Labor, Westchester County offices, and local agencies to help you identify perspective employees.

You can start by browsing some of the resources listed here, and follow-up by scheduling an appointment with OED by calling 914-293-0916.

The City of Peekskill’s downtown was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in May 2005. The defined area covers over 150 buildings. It joins with 12 other sites or neighborhoods within the city that are also included on the register.

The Federal Historic Preservation Tax Incentives program encourages private sector rehabilitation of historic buildings and is one of the nation’s most successful and cost-effective community revitalization programs. It has been used as a stand alone resource for the rehabilitation of commercial structures. Additionally, once you qualify for the Federal Tax Credit, you will automatically eligible to receive a 6% NY State Historic Tax Credit.

Any property owner within the city's National Register Historic District planning to rehabilitate thier building may be eligible for these federal and state income tax credits.
